About Lake Petenwell:

Lake Petenwell is Wisconsin's 2nd largest lake at 23,000 acres.  Located in central Wisconsin just 40 minutes north of Wisconsin Dells, Lake Petenwell is just a short drive from Chicago, Milwaukee, Madison, northeast Iowa, and even the Twin Cities.

Lake Petenwell is a major attraction in South Central Wisconsin. During the summer months, Lake Petenwell county parks are a popular tourist destination where generations have come to enjoy the fantastic fishing, sand beaches, and unlimited boating activities. 

Lake Petenwell is approximately 14 miles long, 6 miles wide at the widest point, has over 100 miles of shoreline and a maximum depth of 43 feet. Boating is great for all recreational, sailing, or fishing boats. Many families enjoy a sunset cruise on a pontoon. Sailing Regattas are also popular usually departing out of the Barnum Bay Marina. With many quiet coves and inlets along the lakes beautiful, wooded shoreline, tranquility and solitude are always easy to find on Lake Petenwell. Up for a little adventure, boat north out of Lake Petenwell up the Wisconsin River several miles all the way to the dam in Nekoosa. You'll find many tributaries and inlets to explore or fish and a few sand bars where many friends like to catch up on a hot summer day. Fishing on the Wisconsin River and Lake Petenwell are fantastic. You will find Smallmouth Bass, Crappie, White Bass, Walleye, Northern Pike and Muskie. Several large fishing tournaments occur throughout the year and there are several resident fishing guides to help you find the "hot spots". When you are ready to satisfy your hunger or thirst, visit one of the five restaurants located on the lake, all of which you can dock your boat at. 

Communities like Wisconsin Rapids, Adams-Friendship, and Mauston are located within a short drive to satisfy any of your shopping, modern convenience, or medical needs. Several championship Golf Courses are located very close to Lake Petenwell including Lake Arrowhead, Northern Bay, and the spectacular Sand Valley.  Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy the thousands of acres of public forest within 5 miles of the lake, hundreds of miles of ATV & snowmobile trails, and Wisconsin Trapshooting Association's world class shooting complex in the Town of Rome.  No matter what you are looking for, Lake Petenwell is sure to please your recreational appetite.
